Things that have been happening this week and the world according to Mackers…

Primarily this week has been set aside for Lit Review work. I am up to version 10, this is by no means a reflection of the work but more to do with developing my writing style after being out of academia for 5 years. Slowly getting there I think and I am glad of this forum where I can write like a 5 year old again and get away with it! I am hopefully on course for submission for publication by the end of the year, most likely in JSCR.
Obviously I have still got my coaching load to contend with and this week has been pretty good, the ACTAS hockey girls have another month left on scholarship and the Footballers who have been injured are all turning the corner towards return to play.
The football injuries have been difficult this season, we have a Liz Franc Fracture, Bi-lateral ankle reconstruction, Bi-lateral popliteal artery occlusion and chronic patella-femoral pain/dysfunction to name a few and all at the same time. Each are fantastic athletes and it is great to see some of the things that they can now do, most of the healthy players are nowhere near them even now! The success recently has been down to diligence and hard work along with excellent attitudes towards all aspects of their rehab, this is not down to me and the players must be praised for this. Touch wood things continue along this path and well done girls.

At ACTAS there was a PD opportunity for everyone to attend an informal Q&A/workshop with Lyn Jones. Lyn is a weightlifting coach renowned around the world and is a great presenter, you could listen to his stories all day. It was interesting stuff and I am still digesting some of the nuggets of information and thinking about how to apply them to my coaching environment.
I reckon the reflection of what has been said is one of the most important things after attending such a workshop. It’s not about mindless copying what has been presented and just mimicking, it is about critical thought processing and the application of the information to you and for your athletes. Is this one of the differences between a good coach, a great coach and a poor one?

Also this week I started to brainstorm some ideas about consultancy work. This is just a teaser I won’t go into any more details at the moment, but I will keep you posted once I get something formed.

I did this brainstorming while watching Entourage Season 6. (I know this is not the best way to brainstorm, but I am now fully addicted to the series and I considered both of these things as recreational so I was able to justify in my own mind watching and working) For those of you who have jumped on the Entourage bandwagon it is hilarious stuff and each character is funny, although Ari and Jonny Drama are my favourites. I had contemplated putting up some quotes for you to get a taster but I reckon they are a little X-rated even for me to post! It is a must watch!

After the last 2 posts of no real relevance to coaching hopefully this post has got us back on track, I look forward to any comments – although there does seem to a bit of glitch in the system, if anyone else uses blogspot and knows how to fix can you send me an email?

I promised everyone a photo due to the personal nature of the last 2 posts, enjoy.
