Gen Z Athletes

As a footnote to the previous post, what the hell are we going to do with the Gen Z’ers who are going to be our future athletes?
A lot of becoming a world class athlete – no matter what the sport - is that you have to work extremely hard and do all the shitty things that make you uncomfortable and are not so good at in order to become an expert. This idea of deliberate practice rather than simply 10,000 hours of practice is crucial.  And gratification is not instant – how can we appeal to this cohort?
The monster that has been created in this generation are the most knowledgeable (due to internet) and expect everything to be fast and easy, this is not conducive to sporting practice and excellence.  Is this going to be a problem in the future and how do we keep a whole population active and involved in sports and not sitting on their asses pretending to be Ronaldo, Nadal, or Ponting on the most technologically advanced and realistic computers?

  1. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. Get a new horse!
